Miradouro da Graça is one of the most famous viewpoints in Lisbon, usually being placed on all of the lists of top miradouros in the city. However, just a short walk from this packed-out viewpoint is a stunning terrace and miradouro in a historic setting. It’s surprisingly quiet and has to be the most underated viewpoint in the city.
Igreja da Graça Miradouro
The church and convent is set just behind the famous Miradouro da Graça. What’s not obvious is that you can go inside and visit its rooftop terrace for even better views!

Igreja da Graça vs Miradouro da Graça
You might be wondering, why if Miradouro da Graça is free, widely known, and very popular we’d be recommending the nearby rooftop. Well, it’s simple, you get to discover a historic convent, admire some beautiful azulejos, chill out on a quiet rooftop, and you even get a free drink.
The downside is paid entry to the terrace, which costs €5 per person, and technically the drink is not free but included in the price. Wine, beer, soft drinks and water are all included, and you can spend as much time on the rooftop as you like!

Igreja e Convento da Graça – The Church and Covent of Graça
A convent here dates to 1271, the era of D. Afonso II and the founding of Portugal. Twenty years after its founding in 1291, the convent became the headquarters of the Portuguese Province of the Order of Saint Augustine, which would last all the way up until 1834.
Entry to the church, convent, cloister, and several azulejo halls is free. However, to access the rooftop you will need to buy a ticket (Adults – €5, 7–12-year-olds €3, under 6 is free).

The Terrace – Lisbon’s Most Underrated Viewpoint
After making your way through the gatehouse, beautiful reception hall, and historic cloister, you can make your way up several staircases to the rooftop. It’s here you can appreciate the cloister and terracotta roof from above. Head towards the bell tower and you’ll find several seating areas where you can sip on a cold drink and take in the incredible view of Lisbon.

Is it worth visiting?
Yes! €5 gets you a supreme spot on one of Lisbon’s most famous viewpoints. You can look down on the chaotic miradouro and you get an even better unobstructed view. Something else to consider, the quiosque at the miradouro is your typical touristy quiosque. It’s hectic, an imperial costs €2.00 and a house wine costs €3.00. So the viewpoint above is a pretty reasonable addition!

How to get to Igreja da Graça
Tram number 12 makes a stop just outside the convent, as do the buses 10, 13, 734 and 797. You can check Carris for the latest departures and tickets. Alternatively, Ubers and Bolts are available, and are a reasonable option.
Tickets for Igreja e Convento da Graça
As mentioned, you only need to buy a ticket if you plan on heading to the rooftop and bell tower. Visiting the church, ground floor of the convent including cloisters and tiled halls is free.
Tickets can be purchased onsite, or online. This is one of those rare occasions where tickets online through a platform are the same price. We recommend using Get Your Guide to purchase your tickets in advance!
