When most people think of Christmas markets in Europe, it’s safe to say Lisbon is not the first place on anyone’s lists. You might be surprised to find out that come Christmas time, Lisbon is loaded with Christmas markets and festivities!
At these Christmas markets you’ll find a mix of both traditional Portuguese food and items, as well as the more typical traditional Christmas market items. Think cups of hot wine, with a side of ginjinha! A little bit of traditional Christmas with a healthy dose of Portugal!
Christmas Markets in Lisbon
There’s almost a Christmas market in each of the major neighborhoods of Lisbon, so in this guide we’ll break down which are worth visiting!

Winter Wonderland Lisbon – Wonderland Lisboa
Usually from the end of November, Wonderland Lisboa transforms Lisbon’s spacious Parque Eduardo VII into a winter wonderland. This is a Christmas themed festival that is far far larger than a traditional Christmas market. You’ll find a variety of attractions, from an open-air ice-skating rink to traditional fairground rides, German style Christmas huts, all set in the sculptured and Christmas themed park.
This is Lisbon’s biggest Christmas event and last all the way up until new years day, giving everyone plenty of opportunity to visit stalls offering local crafts, gifts, and seasonal treats such as roasted chestnuts and Portuguese sweets. It’s free to enter, and perfect for families of all ages.
Don’t miss the incredible ferris wheel that provides stunning views of the city and Tagus river.
Where? Parque Eduardo VII, Marquês de Pombal – Avenidas Novas
When? November 28th, 2025 to January 4th, 2026

Rossio Christmas Market
At the heart of downtown Lisbon, Rossio Christmas Market brings the festive spirit to one of the city’s busiest squares. Stalls filled with Portuguese products, like ceramics, textiles, and gourmet food items, make it a perfect place to pick up gifts and souvenirs.
Being at the focal point of Lisbon’s Baixa district means that this is the perfect place to refuel before exploring all the Christmas decorations leading up Praça do Comércio. The location of Lisbon’s largest Christmas tree.
Where? Praça Dom Pedro IV, Santa Maria Maior
When? November 15th to December 22nd, 2025

Figueira Christmas Market
A short walk, pretty much 150m from Rossio Christmas market is Figueira’s Christmas held in Praça da Figueira. It’s much of the same as Rossio, a similar assortment of huts, food and drink. But well worth wondering through if you’re already planning on visiting Rossio.
From Praça da Figueira, you also get fantastic views up to Castelo de São Jorge, which by Christmas time is lit up with an array of Christmas lights which gives this Christmas market a historic setting.
Where? Praça da Figueira, Baixa
When? November 21st to December 21st, 2025

Campo Pequeno Christmas Market
If you’re looking for local gifts and Christmas shopping, then Campo Pequeno’s Christmas market is for you. It’s known as a more upscale, artisanal Christmas market than the more commercial offerings across the city.
It’s held in the iconic Campo Pequeno, and unlike any of the other markets on this list, you’ll also need to pay for entry. It only costs €2 and you’ll be given a €1 discount voucher for anything inside the market.
Campo Pequeno Christmas market is definitely for shoppers looking for gifts rather than just people hanging out in a festive setting, but it does have some excellent gourmet vendors, with local wines, sweets and snacks. As it is indoor, it’s also the best market to visit if the weather takes a turn for the worse!
Where? Campo Pequeno, Avenidas Novas
When? Two weekends only from November 28th to December 1st, and December 5th to December 8th

Alvalade Christmas Market
Alvalade is a charming neighbourhood in the north of Lisbon, and is the location of the last Christmas market in Lisbon we’ll mention. On Alvalade’s tree lined avenues you’ll find a long line of typical Christmas huts.
Alvaldade Christmas market is a lot less touristy, and more of a family friendly market for lots of the locals. It has a pleasant atmosphere as people browse the stores, buying wines, cheeses, and your typical Christmas treats.
If you’ve not yet explore Alvalade, then combining the Christmas market with its mixture of local shopping, food and drink is a great way to experience this neighbourhood that doesn’t always make the tourist guides.
Where? Avenida da Igreja, Alvalade
When? November 30th to December 11th.

The Best Winter Walk to help you get the most out of Christmas in Lisbon
This is my favourite winter walk to make around Christmas time in Lisbon. It’s 5km (3miles) and if you’re walking without stopping takes around 1hour. However, walking without stopping will be difficult to do as I’ve included four Christmas markets, and lots of individual light displays.
Shareable Map of all of Lisbon’s Best Christmas Markets and Displays
Starting Point: Parque Eduardo VII
The walk is mostly downhill and starts from the very top of Parque Eduardo VII. You get amazing views of Lisbon and get to see the whole of Wonderland Lisboa. From there you wonder through the wonderland, before reaching Marquez de Pombal.
Marquez de Pombal always has a large Christmas display around its main statue. With the ferris wheel of Wonderland in the background. It is a great photo opportunity. From Marquez de Pombal it’s a walk down Lisbon’s premier shopping street Avenida da Liberdade. It’s a wide, tree lined avenue filled with upmarket shops and boutiques. It always has an amazing Christmas light display that changes every year!

Avenida da Liberdade
Follow Avenida da Liberdade and you’ll reach Rossio and the biggest traditional Christmas market in Lisbon. There’s no rides here, but lots and lots of huts!
A short walk west from Praça Dom Pedro, will lead you to Praça Luís de Camões. It’s a hectic square that’s always buzzing at Christmas time. This is when the iconic giant bauble is found. Around the square, and the Chiado area are usually lots of trams too.

Armazéns do Chiado
From Praça Luís de Camões, you’ll be heading back towards downtown Lisbon by following Rua Garrett. At the end of Rua Garrett is the historic shopping centre of Armazéns do Chiado. Which usually always features a huge Christmas display as well as lining the entire street with decorations.

Ending Point: Praça do Comércio
From Chiado, we’re heading into the Baixa area where again the streets have been lined with decorations and light displays. We’ll follow the main streets, all the way to Praça do Comércio to reach Lisbon’s largest Christmas tree!
If you’re not done yet, the final stop is heading back along the centre of Baixa to finish at Praça da Figueira. The final Christmas market on our walk, and time for a much needed vinho quente – Portuguese mulled wine!
